NAACP Newark belongs to the community.  For the past 107 years, this organization has been working to serve the residents of this community.  Some years have been stronger than others but ultimately, we strive to rise to the governing mission and vision of the original founders of NAACP.

We envision an inclusive community rooted in liberation where all persons can exercise their civil and human rights without discrimination.

We each have a role to serve.  NAACP Newark rallies, monitors, advocates, protests, influences and raises awareness on issues that infringe on the rights of people of color.  We focus on African Americans because our long history of enslavement, oppression and legislative imprisonment still remains within America’s systems.  Many say, “get over it, that was a long time ago,” but the fact that there is an inordinate amount of black males in jail is now.  High Infant mortality and women dying in childbirth is now.  Children being used as pawns for testing companies as opposed to being taught to think critically is now.  The enormous wealth gap between whites and blacks is now. Yet, our work benefits and advances justice and equity for all people. 

My call to action:  Become actively engaged in the NAACP Newark Branch!!

Join a committee.  Share the wealth of your experience. Give some of your precious time.

This organization is only as strong as its members.  We are all volunteers.  That means our effectiveness is directly linked to our effectiveness to get volunteers who are willing to do the work. If we all do a little, we can make great strides.
